The client was building a manufacturing line for a new product and required a work cell to precisely attach 14 flex circuits to PCA. The flex circuits were bonded to a cast-aluminum part with a complex shape that would require an innovative datuming scheme to attain the required performance.
Andrews-Cooper delivered a system that reliably and repeatably bonded flex circuits to the PCA. Datum blocks mounted to cross-roller rails were used for precision datuming of the cast aluminum part. Vacuum pick heads mounted to guided cylinders were used to pick and place the flex circuits to the PCA. The system has proven to work more reliably and be more serviceable that similar systems this client has used in the past.
