This client performed rub tests as part of their product development. The rub test results they were achieving with their current tooling were inconsistent and highly manual. This had a negative impact on their product development process. They needed a tool that would achieve consistent rub results at a higher throughput while also requiring less operator interaction. Because the cause of the inconsistent results was not clearly understood, a partner was needed who could engage in the project in two ways. First, to aid in efforts to understand root cause of inconsistencies, and secondly, to develop a tool that could provide the desired deliverables.
Andrews-Cooper worked alongside the client to do testing of different rub materials. Once the client chose the desired material, the Andrews-Cooper team turned their focus to design a tool which would use this material for future rub testing. The Rub Tester was then assembled and tested at the Andrews-Cooper facility. The Rub Tester proved to meet the design goals of the client, and also included ergonomic enhancements which made operation of the tool less of a chore.
